Privacy policy

This policy explains what data Vicepedia processes when you browse the site, create a community account or interact with our advertising and store links.

Data we process

• Local preferences: your cookie choice, language and community session are stored in your browser’s local storage. They never leave your device and are not sent to our servers.
• Community account: if you register, we process your email address (authentication only, managed through Supabase) and the public handle shown next to your comments. You can delete your account at any time from your profile page.
• Comments: the texts you publish are public and appear next to your handle. Please do not post personal data - yours or anyone else’s.
• Analytics: we do not run our own analytics trackers. The only third-party measurement comes from advertising, described below, and only after your consent.

Advertising and Google AdSense

We finance the site with advertising served by Google AdSense. Before any advertising cookie is set, Google’s certified consent message (compliant with the IAB Transparency and Consent Framework) asks for your permission. In that context:

• Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads on this site.
• Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve you ads based on your visits to this and other sites on the web.
• If you decline consent, ads are served in limited mode, without personalization cookies.
• You can opt out of personalized advertising in Google Ads Settings and opt out of third-party vendors’ personalized cookies at www.aboutads.info/choices. You can change your choice at any time as explained in the cookie policy.

Affiliate links

Some outbound links to stores (for example, on the Editions page) are affiliate links. If you buy through them, the store may pay us a commission at no extra cost to you. We never see your payment data: the purchase happens entirely on the store’s site, under its own privacy policy. We only receive aggregated statistics.

Embedded videos

YouTube videos are embedded in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which sets no tracking cookies until you press play.

Legal bases and retention

We process account data to provide the service you signed up for, advertising cookies only with your consent, and technical logs out of legitimate interest in keeping the site secure. Account data is kept while your account exists; deleting your account removes your email and handle.

Your rights

You can request access, rectification, deletion, portability or objection to the processing of your data by writing to the contact listed in the legal notice. If you are in the EU/EEA, you also have the right to lodge a complaint with your data protection authority (in Spain, the AEPD).

If this policy changes, we will update the date at the top of this page.
