GTA VI ads jump to the airport, the seaport and the Metromover: Miami negotiates more contracts
Miami Today reports the county is preparing more deals to advertise GTA VI on public assets, while the city has already given preliminary approval to five giant banners at $208,000 each.
The Kaseya Center sign was just the beginning. According to Miami Today, GTA VI promoters are crafting multiple contracts to advertise the game on other Miami-Dade County assets: the airport, the seaport and Metromover trains are all on the table.
The news caught the county commissioners themselves off guard: they learned at 1:30 a.m. last Friday, as they wrapped up the annual budget, that Mayor Daniella Levine Cava’s administration had signed the arena deal under her delegated authority, just below the $1 million limit she can sign without commission approval. “Is it a basketball game?”, commission Chairman Anthony Rodriguez asked as he tried to understand what was being advertised. Another commissioner, Oliver Gilbert, warned that chaining contracts with the same company across different assets would be “a circumvention of our authority” and demanded the commission vote on future deals.
The deal’s point man, Christopher Hudtwalcker, defended the operation before them: GTA VI “is going to be the biggest cultural phenomenon of the year,” it will make “more money than any movie has ever made,” and it is “heavily inspired by Miami, the good, the bad and the ugly.”
Meanwhile, the City of Miami gave preliminary approval on September 10 to banners of up to 10,000 square feet (about 930 m²) at five locations, for $208,000 each and up to 56 days. County commissioners expect to act on the additional sites in October.
It is the next step of the campaign that began with the $975,000 deal for the Kaseya Center sign, part of GTA VI’s global marketing plan we covered this week.
