Stephen Root, GTA VI's first confirmed actor, and Rockstar reminds its cast about the NDA

The Barry and King of the Hill actor confirmed he voices Brian Heder in GTA VI; shortly after, a podcast claims Rockstar reminded its entire voice cast that their involvement can't be announced before November 19.

GTA VI has its first confirmed voice cast name, and it’s one with plenty of screen hours: Stephen Root, known for Barry, King of the Hill and Get Out. The actor himself confirmed a few weeks ago that he’s in the game, and fans quickly identified his voice in one of the early trailers: he plays Brian Heder, a drug pusher heard talking in one of the scenes.

Root didn’t clarify at the time which character he was playing, but the community did the detective work, matching the trailer audio to his unmistakable register. His confirmation continues a long Rockstar tradition of celebrity casting, with voices as recognizable as Samuel L. Jackson or Ray Liotta in previous entries.

The unexpected sequel to this story comes now. As reported by GamesRadar citing Insider Gaming, the GTAVIoclock podcast - a source that usually moves well within the Rockstar ecosystem - claims the company recently contacted its entire voice cast to remind them of their confidentiality agreement: “We would like to remind everyone to please remember your NDA. The date you may announce your involvement is still November 19th.”

This last part deserves caution: it’s a podcast claim with no official confirmation from Rockstar, and the company itself hasn’t commented. If true, it fits the obvious reading: there are casting surprises saved for launch day, and Root’s slip may have made the communications team nervous.

Either way, the solid fact stands: Stephen Root is Brian Heder, the first of what will surely be a list of familiar names we’ll discover on the road to November 19. Meanwhile, Tuesday brings the Game Informer cover story, which could shed more light on the cast and the game’s world.
