This is how you steal cars in GTA VI: the Waink app, working trunks and circuit racing

Cars matter much more in GTA VI than in previous entries. According to Red Bull’s roundup of what was seen in the Extended Look and the preview sessions at Rockstar North, Jason and Lucia can each own several personal cars, every one with a working trunk for storing weapons, clothes and other items - and even for hiding or transporting people.

Before stealing a car, the in-game phone app Waink would let you scan it and see its security level, the tools required, its tracker level, registration costs and even its resale value at a glance. An old car can be hot-wired fairly easily; expensive models require special tools such as a key duplicator, unlocked by completing jobs for various fence operators.

There are also quick-time events to pull the driver out of an occupied vehicle (with passengers who fight back and try to drag you out again), lock picks for parked cars and the option to smash the window, risking the alarm going off and alerting the police. And a first for the series: circuit racing, another sign that driving wants to grow into a fully fledged arcade racer.
