Rockstar unveils GTA VI's Vice City Collection: $399.99 of official merchandise (game not included)
Rockstar has officially announced The Good Time State - Vice City Collection, a $399.99 collector's box inspired by Macca the Gator with 11 physical items. The game is not included.
It’s official. Hours after the Vice City Collection surfaced in the Rockstar Store backend, Rockstar has formally unveiled “The Good Time State - Vice City Collection” on its official website: a premium merchandise collector’s box priced at $399.99 that does not include the game.
The collection is inspired by Macca the Gator, the fictional TV show within the GTA VI universe, and contains 11 items: a Macca the Gator figure, Oakley Frogskins sunglasses, a Leonida Keys crossbody bag, a New Era 9FORTY snapback, a Macca magnetic mirror, a Chunkee the Manatee shot glass, a Vice City collectible swizzle spoon, a Vice City razor blade keychain, a Leonida Keys enamel pin set in a metal tin, a sticker pack and a double-sided souvenir poster with the map of Leonida.
The box is limited to one per person. Anyone who also wants the game will need to add at least the $79.99 standard edition (or the $99.99 Ultimate Edition): the combined purchase tops $480. Rockstar has also confirmed other physical products, including a physical edition of the soundtrack and a GTA VI-branded DualSense controller.
The name, “The Good Time State,” plays on Florida’s tourism slogan (“The Sunshine State”) and confirms the care put into Leonida’s setting ahead of the November 19 launch.
First reaction: the price divides fans
The Vice City Collection, the $399.99 collector’s box inspired by the fictional TV show “Macca the Gator”, has been up for pre-order for barely a day and already has its first controversy: a large part of the community is not buying the price.
As Screen Rant reports, the reaction on forums like Reddit is close to unanimous rejection. The main reason is easy to grasp: it’s a $400 “collector’s” edition that doesn’t include the game. One user sums it up: “Like actually criminal. Game sold separately is icing on the cake.” Another goes deeper: “Why should I be hyped about a cartoon alligator I know nothing about?”
That second comment hits the product’s most delicate point. The box’s theme revolves around Macca the Gator, a fictional TV series from the game’s universe that players have only glimpsed in brief trailer nods. It’s merchandising for an internal brand that doesn’t exist for the public yet, a move only a franchise with GTA’s cultural pull could even attempt.
The comparison with the rest of the lineup doesn’t help: the standard edition costs $79.99 and the Ultimate $99.99, both including the game. The Collection, five times the standard price, offers a figure, Oakley sunglasses, a New Era cap, a Leonida map poster and other physical items, but no copy of the game.
Still, noise shouldn’t be confused with sales: Rockstar’s collector’s editions historically sell out within hours, and $400 doesn’t look like an obstacle for the audience it’s aimed at. The real test comes on November 19, when we’ll find out whether the controversy was a storm in a teacup or GTA VI’s first commercial stumble.

Resale on eBay
It was only a matter of hours. Barely a day after pre-orders opened for the Vice City Collection, scalpers are already reselling the GTA VI collector’s box on eBay at absurd prices, as Beebom reports.
The numbers: most listings ask between $900 and $1,000, the cheapest sits around $800 (double the official $399.99 price) and the highest spotted so far reaches $1,750, more than four times the original price. And the most striking part: people are actually buying at those prices.
The paradox is obvious. Yesterday the community was lashing out at Rockstar for selling a $400 collector’s edition without the game; today resellers confirm what Rockstar already knew: the demand is there, and then some. The company doesn’t need to justify the price when the resale market quadruples it in 24 hours.
It’s not the first time in this campaign. The GTA VI Limited Edition PS5 controllers, priced at $84.99, were already resold for over $200. And everything suggests any merchandise Rockstar releases until November 19 will meet the same fate.
The usual advice applies more than ever: anyone who wants the collection should buy it from Rockstar’s official store while stock lasts. Paying a scalper $1,700 for a box still on sale at $400 means handing them $1,300 of pure profit.

Stock after 24 hours
The missing data point in the Vice City Collection story: according to TheGamer, 24 hours after pre-orders opened, the $399.99 box is still available on Rockstar’s official US and UK stores. Not sold out, no waiting list.
It’s a striking contrast with the series’ track record: the limited-edition DualSense controllers and the album’s collector vinyl sold out within hours. The $400 box has not. The community seems to have voted with its wallet: the price and the absence of the game outweigh the hype, just as the wave of negative reactions suggested from minute one.
The figure also puts the wild eBay resale listings in context: yes, there are listings at $800-1,750, but with plenty of stock in the official store, buying from a scalper is simply throwing money away. Resellers bet on a scarcity that, so far, doesn’t exist.
Does this mean the collection is a flop? Too early to say: there are almost two months until November 19 and the marketing campaign grows every week. But the market’s first verdict is in: not even the most anticipated game in history sells anything at any price.

Recycled items, according to fans
The Vice City Collection has a new controversy, and this time it’s not about the price. As reported by Areajugones, several users on social media have compared the box’s items with promotional merchandise from earlier entries in the series and found similarities that go well beyond coincidence.
The most cited examples: the Vice City keychain is practically identical to one that already existed; the spoon is almost a carbon copy of the one Rockstar handed out as a promotional item for The Ballad of Gay Tony, the 2008 GTA IV expansion, with only the color and logo changed; and the frame-mirror strongly resembles another item from the GTA Vice City era.
GamesRadar adds the most curious detail of the bunch. The spoon is actually a swizzle spoon, the long utensil used in cocktail bars to stir drinks. The 2008 original, gold and bearing The Ballad of Gay Tony logo, has become a collector’s item over the years that fetches thousands of dollars due to its extreme rarity. Seen that way, the new spoon can be read as a deliberate nod to a legendary piece of Rockstar memorabilia, not just a reused design.
That is exactly the debate now open in the community: lazy recycling or a tribute to the series’ history? It’s worth stressing that this is a fan interpretation, not any official confirmation. Rockstar has bundled merchandising kits with its major releases for years, usually without the game included, and references to earlier entries are part of its usual language.
The controversy adds to an eventful few weeks for the $399.99 box: first came the backlash over the price and the missing game, then the speculative resale market, and now the debate over how original its contents really are. None of it seems to be slowing demand: the Collection keeps selling out and coming back into stock on the road to November 19.
