Rockstar wants Lucia to stand alongside Arthur Morgan and Niko Bellic
LOVE Magazine's full interview adds details on Lucia's origins, Raul's role and a more modest American dream.
Rockstar wants Lucia to stand alongside protagonists such as Arthur Morgan (Red Dead Redemption 2) and Niko Bellic (GTA IV) while keeping a distinct identity. Vice reported it on October 5, 2026, based on the studio’s interview with LOVE Magazine.
Who Lucia is, according to Rockstar
According to Vice, Rockstar conceived Lucia as someone with an immigrant background who grew up near Newark, New Jersey, close to Liberty City, before her story takes her to Leonida. She is determined to build a better life and does not let obstacles stop her. That ambition partly explains her relationship with Jason, whose circumstances weigh more on the choices he makes.
Jason, Raul and the pair
Vice sums up that Jason and Lucia were written to complement each other, with different personalities that create a push-and-pull relationship. Jason’s circumstances push him toward crimes such as drug trafficking and bank robbery. Rockstar says his story is not meant as a political statement about his military background, although players will influence some of his choices.
Raul, per the interview, is an older mentor who introduces the pair to bigger criminal jobs and knows Vice City’s criminal world. At the core of the premise, Rockstar sees something hopeful and naive: two young criminals on the run seeing how far they can take it.
A more modest American dream
Rockstar says GTA VI’s American dream is more modest than in earlier games: less about extreme wealth, more about owning a house, supporting a family and paying off loans. LOVE’s preview had already hinted at this, which we covered on October 2.
What is missing
We have not read the full LOVE Magazine text; the details come from Vice’s summary, so the level is medio-verificado. For the romance angle, see the optional Jason and Lucia relationship.
