Twitch CEO says GTA VI multiplayer is coming in 2027

Dan Clancy, CEO of Twitch, said in a Bloomberg interview that GTA VI’s multiplayer will arrive in 2027. “We spent a lot of time talking with Rockstar about their plans, and also helping them think about how they can engage our creators. You are going to see this big bump with GTA 6, but then an even bigger one next year when they launch multiplayer,” he said.

An important caveat: Rockstar has announced nothing about GTA VI’s online mode, and it is a safe bet Clancy is not authorized to make that announcement. Still, his words do not sound speculative. Twitch has a direct stake in the game: roleplay communities (GTA RP) have driven GTA viewership on the platform for years, which is why Clancy talks about helping Rockstar reach its creators.

His comments land the same day Take-Two summed up its position at the shareholder meeting with a deliberate sentence: “GTA 6 is a single-player title launching in November. We will continue to support GTA Online following the release of GTA 6 and beyond.” In other words: the November 19 game is the campaign, and GTA Online (2013) is not closing when GTA VI arrives. Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier also noted the company is not planning to talk about the new online any time soon.

Almost everything else remains officially unanswered: whether the future online will be a standalone “GTA Online 2”, a mode integrated into GTA VI, or an evolution of the current one, and whether official roleplay will follow the success of GTA 5’s roleplay servers. The known pattern is no guide either: GTA 5 launched in September 2013 and GTA Online followed two weeks later, but this time everything points to a much longer gap and, perhaps, a standalone product.
