GTA VI Online: what we know about multiplayer

GTA VI has no announced online mode. Rockstar has not said a word about multiplayer for its next game: no name, no date, not even whether it will exist as a separate product. Everything known comes from Take-Two, its parent company, and from third parties.

What Take-Two has confirmed

At the September 17, 2026 annual shareholder meeting, the company summed up its roadmap with a very deliberate line: “GTA 6 is a single-player title launching in November. We will continue supporting GTA Online after GTA 6 launches and beyond.” Two clear takeaways: the game shipping on November 19, 2026 is the single-player campaign, and the current GTA Online (2013) is not closing when GTA VI arrives.

Bloomberg’s Jason Schreier added in the same context that Take-Two has not talked at all about the new GTA Online and does not plan to anytime soon.

What third parties say

Twitch CEO Dan Clancy told Bloomberg that his platform has talked extensively with Rockstar about its plans and that GTA VI multiplayer arrives in 2027, with a viewership peak “even bigger” than launch. Clancy has a direct relationship with Rockstar, but his claim is not an official announcement, which is why this entry is marked as partially verified.

The precedent

GTA Online launched in October 2013, two weeks after GTA 5, and became Take-Two’s economic engine for over a decade through microtransactions. Expecting the company to repeat the pattern (campaign first, online later) is reasonable, but no concrete dates exist until Rockstar speaks.

What we don’t know

Whether the future online component will be a standalone “GTA Online 2”, a mode integrated into GTA VI, or an evolution of the current one; whether official roleplay will follow the success of GTA 5 community servers; and how two active worlds, Leonida and Los Santos, will coexist. None of this has an official answer yet.
