Leonida will not copy all of Florida: Rockstar explains how it picks locations

Having Rockstar’s largest map does not mean GTA VI will include every famous location in Florida. Paul MacPherson, senior vice president of environment art, explains in Game Informer’s feature how the studio chooses what to bring into Leonida.

According to IGN, Game Informer asked about attractions such as Disney World, Universal Studios and SeaWorld. MacPherson said the team evaluates landscapes, towns, structures, landmarks, vistas, plants and rock formations, then works with design and narrative to narrow that list to what best serves the game.

“So, while we may not have those exact locations, everything we have is geared to getting that full Florida experience!” MacPherson says in the quote published by IGN.

The quote does not confirm a list of omissions

Several headlines frame the answer as a definitive exclusion of theme parks or Orlando. IGN, however, notes that Rockstar did not rule out specific locations. The wording describes selection and not necessarily recreating exact places; it does not establish that there will be no references, fictional attractions or areas inspired by them.

There is no confirmed legal reason for that selection, either. Attributing it to fear of Disney or other brands would speculate about a decision MacPherson describes in terms of design and narrative.

The interview adds the thinking behind Leonida’s six regions: capturing Florida’s variety and character, rather than reproducing every tourist destination. It is another side of Rockstar’s field research, not a complete inventory of the final map.
