GTA VI unlocks at local midnight: New Zealand plays first
Rockstar releases the game at 12:00 AM in each time zone on November 19, not at one global time. New Zealand gets it almost a day before the Americas, and on Xbox the classic console region-change trick works.
GTA VI will not launch at the same time worldwide. According to outlets covering the pre-orders, Rockstar will unlock the game at local midnight in each region on November 19, making New Zealand the first country to play it: when the clock hits 12:00 AM there on Thursday the 19th, it will be 6:00 AM on Wednesday the 18th on the US East Coast, and 3:00 AM Pacific.
As with every big release in this format, Xbox has a trick: switching the console’s region to New Zealand moves the unlock forward by almost a full day. On PS5 it does not work, because the store is tied to the account’s region and does not adjust unlock times.
Why a staggered rollout? With no launch multiplayer there are no servers to protect, so the most reasonable reading is store logistics, not tech. Rockstar has not published an official per-region timetable, so the fine details (exact time per country, preload) are still pending confirmation, which is why this story is marked as partially verified.
Preload and regional times will be updated in our release date entry when official data arrives.
