GTA VI pre-orders are leaning heavily toward PS5, and alarm bells are ringing at Xbox

Xbox sources cited by The Verge admit GTA VI pre-orders are heavily skewed toward PS5, despite the game launching on both platforms the same day.

GTA VI launches the same day on PS5 and Xbox Series X|S, but pre-orders are not landing evenly. According to Xbox sources cited by Tom Warren in The Verge and reported by Push Square, pre-orders are “heavily skewed” toward PS5, enough to ring alarm bells inside Microsoft’s division.

There are no official numbers, but context explains part of the gap: the PS5 is nearing 100 million consoles sold versus roughly 35 million Xbox Series X|S units, which alone anticipates close to a 3:1 ratio. The question is whether Sony’s marketing is widening that lead even further.

Sony has tied the game to its brand everywhere: the “Plays Best on PS5” mark appears even on the physical cases already displayed in stores, and the marketing deal positions the console as GTA VI’s aspirational home despite the game being multiplatform.

The news lands in the middle of a pre-order wave: between the $399.99 Vice City Collection and the standard ($79.99) and Ultimate ($99.99) editions, Rockstar is moving its entire catalog ahead of November 19. If the trend holds, PS5 will claim the generation’s biggest commercial win without the game being an exclusive.
