The release calendar is clearing out of GTA VI's way
A La Vanguardia analysis shows a nearly empty November around the 19th: major studios have moved their games to avoid competing with Rockstar, and the ripple effect will be felt into 2027.
November is usually one of gaming’s strongest months, but this year it is practically empty. An analysis published by La Vanguardia describes how the entire industry has cleared out around November 19, GTA VI’s launch date: for almost the whole month there are only re-releases, small-scale games, and one big exception, the The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time remake on November 5.
On the 19th itself, only two very particular releases dare to show up: The Binding of Isaac: Repentance+ on Switch 2 and Volvy’s Adventure: Reslimed, the retro PC game with which Devolver Digital jokingly promised to take on Rockstar when the date was announced. Five days later, the only arrival is Gothic 3 Classic, a console port of a game already released on PC.
The effect is visible before and after. On September 24, three high-profile releases land on the same day - Control Resonant, Silent Hill: Townfall and the Dragon Quest XI S port for Switch 2 - something the industry normally avoids to prevent cannibalizing sales, and October is just as packed. Studios that fled to January and February 2027 are finding those months already saturated, making it almost inevitable that some will delay again out of sheer survival.
The analysis recalls this has happened once already: when GTA VI moved from May to November, several companies brought their games forward or pushed them away from the critical date. Rockstar, meanwhile, keeps promotion at full throttle with deals like the Kaseya Center sign, part of the global marketing campaign we covered this week.
