Ubisoft pokes fun at the GTA VI collection: Rayman Legends Retold's physical edition costs $39.99 and actually includes everything
According to Vandal, Ubisoft used the announcement of Rayman Legends Retold's Launch Edition - a printed map, lithographs and an exclusive item for $39.99 - to take a dig at GTA VI's $399.99 box that doesn't include the game.
The $399.99 Vice City Collection with no game inside keeps making waves, and this time the jab comes from inside the industry. According to Vandal, Ubisoft used the announcement of Rayman Legends Retold’s physical edition to throw a direct dig at Rockstar and its collector’s box.
The comparison writes itself. Rayman Legends Retold’s Launch Edition will cost $39.99 - ten times less than the GTA VI box - and includes a printed Glade of Dreams map, three lithographs and an exclusive item, plus the game itself, which returns in December in this remastered version. Ubisoft presented the pack by showing off its physical content, a contrast impossible not to read as a wink at Rockstar’s controversy.
The timing is no accident. The $399.99 box has spent a week racking up chapters: first the fan backlash over the price and the missing game, then the speculative resales and the debate over items recycled from older games. Another major publisher using that controversy to promote its own release confirms the conversation has escaped the community.
Even so, demand for the GTA VI collection shows no sign of slowing: the box keeps selling out and coming back in stock on the road to November 19.
