Rockstar has kept every GTA VI promise so far
A Vice analysis reviews the game's biggest promises - NPC density, animations, graphics - and concludes none have been scaled back.
Will Rockstar scale GTA VI back before launch? It has been the community’s recurring fear since the first trailer, and an analysis published by Vice concludes that, so far, the studio has kept all of its big promises.
The review starts with crowd density: the first trailer’s beach scene looked impossible to sustain, but the Extended Look confirmed streets and beaches full of NPCs with their own behaviors. That matches Rockstar’s promise to The New York Times of more lifelike characters, individually art-directed and backed by more than 600,000 animations. The graphics, far from being downgraded, look even better than in the original trailers, Vice notes.
Beyond visuals, the analysis highlights that the ambitious features remain intact: Leonida is the largest world the studio has ever created, with Vice City, smaller towns, swamps, islands and rural areas. The police system has been expanded with witnesses, security cameras, search zones and vehicle trackers that shape how the law responds; driving has been rebuilt with details like fuel and working gas stations; and Jason and Lucia’s relationship can be developed through optional activities that push it toward the romantic or the strictly professional.
Vice also counts the marketing promise as kept: back in March, Zelnick said the campaign would kick off after pre-orders opened, and it did, with the 26-minute Extended Look on Netflix, new screenshots, and unprecedented press access to the studio. The “new media” strategy the CEO previewed also materialized in Grand Theft Auto VI: The Album, the 34-track album of original songs with Atlantic Records.
This is an editorial analysis, not an official confirmation, but it rests on material published by the studio itself. Two months from launch, the question is whether the final version will hold the level shown on PlayStation 5.
