GTA VI's wildlife by the numbers: 60+ bird types, 30+ land mammals and marine life that truly moves
New details from Game Informer's cover story: a breakdown of the 170+ species, distinct behavior for sharks, whales and rays, and the ability to track rare animals.
We already knew GTA VI will have more than 170 animal species. Now, from the Game Informer cover story, come the figures that give that number shape: over 60 bird types and over 30 land mammals, plus fish and reptiles.
Marine life promises more than decoration. Sharks, jellyfish, whales, turtles and rays will have their own movement patterns, and can be seen up close while scuba diving. On land, players will be able to track animals, and there will be rare types to find, an idea that recalls Red Dead Redemption 2’s legendary animals. Rockstar hasn’t revealed what those rare species will be.
There’s also an open question about hunting: a screenshot in the cover story suggests it could return, but the available details don’t confirm its scope, so for now that’s all it is, a suggestion.
Michael Kane, vice president of dynamic art, sums it up: “Florida has a diverse animal ecosystem that we wanted to faithfully include across the different biomes in Leonida - urban and rural environs, aquatic life both inland and ocean, and the wetland habitats like the swamps and Everglades”. Six regions, each with its own soundtrack of fins, feathers and teeth.
