GTA VI trailer 1 guide: scene by scene

What GTA VI's first trailer (December 5, 2023) shows, minute by minute, and what was confirmed afterwards.

Grand Theft Auto VI’s first trailer was published on December 5, 2023, hours ahead of schedule after the video leaked on social media. It runs about 91 seconds and was the first confirmation of the lead couple, the return to Vice City and the state of Leonida. It closed with the first release window: 2025.

Scene by scene

  • 0:02, Vice City at sunset. An aerial shot of the skyline: beaches, canals and skyscrapers with neon reflections. See Vice City.
  • 0:12, life in Leonida. A quick run of coastal scenes: yacht parties, marinas and seaside roads.
  • 0:22, Lucia in prison. Lucia Caminos talks to a prison officer. It is the introduction of the series’ first female lead of the HD era. More on Leonida Penitentiary.
  • 0:40, wildlife and chaos. An alligator walks into a store and wetland scenes appear. More on alligators.
  • 1:02, the robbery. Lucia and Jason, armed and wearing balaclavas, rob a store and the trailer ends with the couple leaning on each other. Details in the store robbery.

What was confirmed later

Almost everything trailer 1 only hinted at was spelled out by later official material: the second trailer named the supporting cast and Rockstar’s site published the Jason and Lucia profiles. Game Informer later detailed the places, with the six regions of Leonida.

What we don’t know

The exact locations of the scenes (the store, the prison) have never been officially confirmed. The scene names above are our own descriptions, not Rockstar titles.
